Volunteer at the PA Conference
Volunteers play an important role at our conferences by assisting presenters and attendees in sessions as session assistants. Session assistants ensure that sessions at conferences run efficiently by:
- Introducing sessions and presenters
- Tracking attendance
- Assisting presenters with time management and set up
- Remaining in session rooms to assist attendees
Session assistants are required to attend all sessions in an assigned conference track during the course of the conference. Session assistants must have a friendly, service-oriented attitude. In exchange for volunteering, you will receive free registration for the conference, which will provide exciting educational and networking opportunities. This includes access to the general session, exhibit hall, education sessions, meals, receptions, and CEUs. This is a great opportunity to participate in sessions and learn new information about the industry! Please note, lodging is not included.
For more information about volunteering at the PA Conference, please contact Bethany Dittmar Sowinski, Director of Conference Education, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Keynote Speaker - Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour
We're pleased to welcome Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour as one of our keynote speakers at the Pennsylvania Home Performance Conference & Trade Show. Dr. Gilmour is the President of Pennsylvania College of Technology – a nationally recognized leader in applied technology education. She earned her Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in health education from The Pennsylvania State University as well as a B.S. and A.S. in dental hygiene education from West Liberty State College.
Among her community affiliations and professional activities:
- Little League International Board of Directors, Member
- UPMC Susquehanna Health Board, Vice Chair
- Community Arts Center Board of Directors, President
- Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce Board; Served as Chairman for two terms, member of the Executive Committee and Board; Chair of Economic Community & Growth Corporation and Emerson Project
- Northeast Athletic Conference, Vice Chair of Presidents Council
- First Community Foundation Partnership of PA, Board Member
- Middles States Commission on Higher Education, Commissioner
Dr. Gilmour will be speaking about Penn College’s Strategy to Mitigate the Skills Gap. Successfully addressing the skills gap, specifically in STEM occupations, requires an understanding of current workforce needs and the modern skill sets employers seek. Gone are the days when an employee with a narrow combination of skills can succeed. Employers are increasingly challenged to find workers with the diverse array of skills needed to perform their jobs. The building performance sector is a specialized trade in which workers need to know a little about a lot, because they approach a building as a system. Workers must have an understanding of multiple skill trades such as HVAC, construction, carpentry, and electrical. At Pennsylvania College of Technology, our graduates are ready to thrive Day 1 on the job because of the well-rounded, hands-on education they receive. The College also addresses lifelong learning through Workforce Development programs that help companies update the skill sets of employees. The College’s National Sustainable Structures Center (NSSC) has been providing building performance training, national certification, and technical assistance to the Pennsylvania Weatherization Assistance Program and Pennsylvania energy utilities since 1985. This technical training is enhanced with essential competencies needed in the industry: leadership, team building, and communication.
