BPA Sets Policy Agenda for NE Regional Conference

Building Performance Association
Tuesday, December 17, 2019

On Wednesday, December 11, 2019, BPA released the Agenda for the Northeast Regional Home Performance Conference & Trade Show on February 11-12, 2020 at Saratoga Springs, New York.  BPA worked closely with its state contractor allies in New York, such as the Building Performance Contractors’ Association of New York State (BPCA) to select the policy topics for the Agenda.

With Governor Cuomo’s April 2019 announcement of New Efficiency, New York and the July 2019 passage of The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act – many energy efficiency policy issues are changing rapidly in New York state. BPA’s policy staff have been working hard along with non-profit partner organizations to help shape the implementation of some of these policy changes.

BPA has also worked closely with BPCA to incorporate updates during the NE Conference on emerging topics such as electrification and heat pumps, as well as briefings on policy changes directly from NYSERDA officials. Several of the topics being closely monitored by home performance contractors and BPCA members will be covered by panels that include:

  • The Evolution of New York’s Low-to-Moderate Income Energy Efficiency Initiatives with David Friello, NYSERDA
  • Engaging with Utilities and NYSERDA on Programs and Incentives with Keith Bohling, NYSERDA
  • Opportunities for Funding Healthy Homes Interventions within New York State Medicaid’s Value-Based Payment Framework with Mishel Filisha, NYSERDA
  • Electrification - All Electric Technologies to Support a Low Carbon Future with Michelle Tinner and Isaiah Grigos
  • The Future of Clean Heating and Cooling Programs in New York State with Lauren Brois, Todd Fabozzi, Wendy MacPherson, Scott Smith and William Xia

BPA continues to work closely with BPCA and other partners to help shape policy developments in Albany in ways that can allow for home performance contractors to grow and expand their businesses. Implementation of New Efficiency, New York and The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act will increase the demand for clean energy and energy efficiency in New York. BPA and BPCA will continue to give voice to home performance contractor concerns and practical advice on implementation issues as these new climate and energy efficiency programs are implemented.
