From Forum to Community—The Little Change That Represents Big Ideas

Macie Melendez, Managing Editor, Building Performance Journal
Monday, February 10, 2020

It’s with great excitement that we announce that the Home Energy Pros Forum is becoming the Building Performance Community. This name change serves two purposes: 1) it better aligns this group with its parent organization, the Building Performance Association, and 2) it better describes what this online network is about, which is the sense of community.

The Forum has always been a digital platform for home performance professionals, and that will not change. What will change in the coming weeks is a new layout and streamlined functionality. And while this name change may seem small, it truly does represent something much bigger: industry connectivity.

Here’s a little background. For many years, the home performance industry had two thriving online communities where members openly discussed various topics. Home Energy Pros was a partnership between Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Home Energy magazine. The Home Performance Forum was a thriving LinkedIn community.

Today, the Building Performance Association proudly operates the Building Performance Journal and the Home Energy Pros Forum, facilitating the ongoing exchange of ideas and information for the home performance and weatherization industry.

In 2017, the Home Performance Coalition (HPC) united these communities into the Home Energy Pros Forum. Just a year later, HPC became the Building Performance Association through a merger with Efficiency First and Home Energy magazine. And just last month, Home Energy magazine rebranded as the Building Performance Journal and changed its subscription-based magazine into a BPA members-only publication.

As you can see in the image above, this name change brings everything together. So, while you may not see much change on your end as a member of this community, know that it does represent a lot of hard work with the end goal of connecting our industry. We are dedicated to giving you the best online experience possible, and we hope that our members continue to grow with us and use this space as a place to share their experience, education, and resources.

Stay tuned for updates to www.homeenergypros.org and follow along with the developments on our social media channels.
