Making Value Visible in the High Performing Homes Market

Making Value Visible in the High Performing Homes Market

Julie Caracino, Director of Policy & Programs, Building Performance Association
Wednesday, September 4, 2019

The Building Performance Association and Elevate Energy are excited to announce the release of Making the Value Visible: A Blueprint for Transforming the High-Performing Homes Market by Showcasing Clean and Efficient Energy Improvements. This paper presents strategies for valuing clean and efficient energy upgrades in the real estate market.

The original paper, which was released in July 2013, was a first-of-its-kind document for the energy efficiency industry. The goal of the paper is to provide a step-by-step blueprint for making high-performing homes visible in the real estate transaction for the purposes of increasing the value of energy efficiency.

When energy efficiency is accurately valued in the real estate transaction, a market transformation cycle takes place in which homeowners upgrade their homes not only because these improvements make their homes more livable and less expensive to operate, but also because they can reasonably expect to capture the value of these improvements when they sell. This not only benefits home sellers, but also increases the value of work performed by home performance contractors.

Since the report was originally released, we’ve learned new lessons and have new stories to share. In this new edition of the Blueprint, you will find:

  • New and important actions to implement
  • Updated graphics and resources
  • A “Real Estate Industry Cheat Sheet”
  • Case studies showcasing innovative ideas for working with the real estate industry
